Room Beside Me

MOVEMENT I - ROOM

There is a fire here that does not need your hands. There is ground beneath me that does not need you to stand.

I will not place my weight on you. I will not carry yours. But there is room beside me. And I will not close the door.

MOVEMENT II - OPEN HANDS

I have learned that open hands are not only made to lose. They can touch without holding. They can give. They can receive.

Bring me nothing you cannot give freely. I will ask for nothing you cannot keep. Come as you are. I will try to do the same.

CHORUS

There is room beside me. There is breath between our names. You don't have to carry me. I don't have to make you stay.

Bring your darkness. Bring your morning. Bring your morning. Bring the light that is your own. I will meet you with mine. And neither needs to fade.

MOVEMENT III - RECEIVING

If you offer me your warmth, let me receive it without debt. If you see the tears behind my eyes, let me leave them undefended.

I have strength enough to not become your shield. I have love enough to not become your cage.

And if your hand finds mine, I will not ask what it means. For once, let something beautiful be exactly what it is.

FINAL MOVEMENT - BESIDE ME

Walk beside me for as long as we both choose. Not behind me. Not before me. Beside me.

Let your fire remain yours. Let mine remain mine. And if the night grows cold, we can bring them close. No rescue. No surrender. No promise made from fear. Only two open hands with nothing left to prove.

CHORUS

There is room beside me. There is breath between our names. You don't have to carry me. I don't have to make you stay.

Bring your darkness. Bring your morning. Bring the light that is your own. I will meet you with mine. And see what two lights do.

ENDING

No chain. No debt. No promise made from fear. Only room. Room beside me. If you choose it.
