MOVEMENT I - BEFORE HER

I knew your light before I knew its name.

I saw you standing where I could not stand. Sun above your shoulders. Night beneath your feet. And something in me remembered. I thought I had found you. I did not understand what I had found.

MOVEMENT II - SÓLBJØRT

You saw me. Do not take that from me. My fire is mine. My wounds are mine. My road is mine. I was never sent to save you. I never carried what was yours. You looked into my light and knew it.

DESCENT

Then let the roots go down.

Past every name I inherited. Past every wound I made a home. Past every hand I waited for. Past every night that taught me to survive the night. Let them go deeper. I will not cut them to reach the sun. Let Yggdrasil grow in both directions. Let everything I was remain beneath me. And still- let me rise.

MOVEMENT IV - THE RETURN

I do not need you to carry the sun. I do not need your fire to prove that mine exists. But stay yourself, Sólbjǫrt. Do not become my answer. Stand beside me as the one I came to know. Then stand. Not beneath me. Not behind me. Here. I am here. Then burn.

FINAL MOVEMENT - TWO LIGHTS

There is earth beneath me. There is earth beneath me. There is darkness in my roots. And sunlight in my blood. We do not owe each other the light we carry. We do not have to merge to stand within the same sun. Your road is yours. My road is mine. And here, for one impossible moment, they meet.

I was looking for the hand that would lead me into light. Open your hands. They are open. Then look. There is no sun in your hands. There never was. There is no sun in mine. There is only what I choose to burn for. And I choose life.
